Alondra Nelson is professor of sociology and Dean of Social Science at Columbia University. Her recent books, The Social Life of DNA: Race, Reparations, and Reconciliation after the Genome and Body and Soul: The Black Panther Party and the Fight against Medical Discrimination, have been lauded as “tremendously important,” “pressing and urgent,” and “brilliant.” Alondra is a scholar of science, technology and inequality and has been invited to contribute to national policy discussions about the social implications of new technologies, including artificial intelligence, big data, and human gene-editing.
A member of the Data & Society advisory board since 2014, Alondra’s expertise will be essential for our growing research team and projects, and we are beyond thrilled to have her guidance on our Board of Directors.
Please join us in welcoming Alondra to this new role at Data & Society!
