Ania Calderón


Ania Calderon is Data & Society’s managing director for strategy and engagement. A leading open government advocate, she has worked at the intersection of technology and democracy for over a decade, supporting the delivery of participatory data governance policies across multiple countries.

Previously, as executive director of the Open Data Charter, she worked with governments and multilateral organizations to open data while protecting human rights. As part of Mexico’s National Digital Strategy from 2012–2016 in the Office of the President, she delivered a key presidential mandate for data governance.

Ania was a two-time fellow at Harvard University’s Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society’s program for Ethics and Governance of Artificial Intelligence, where she co-founded the AI Blindspot initiative. She holds a master’s degree from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University.
