Data & Society’s Intelligence & Autonomy initiative is hosting a small-group conversation with Steven Gustafson (GE Global Research).

Dr. Gustafson will be speaking about his team’s work on AI and applying intelligent systems across GE’s industrial systems. He will describe several data science challenges facing industry today and share his opinions on shifting consumer attitudes toward data-driven and intelligent systems.

As a former member of the Machine Learning Lab and Computational Intelligence Lab, Dr. Gustafson develops and applies advanced AI and machine learning algorithms for complex problem solving. He received his PhD in computer science from the University of Nottingham, UK, where he was a research fellow in the Automated Scheduling, Optimisation and Planning Research Group. He received his BS and MS in computer science from Kansas State University, where he was a research assistant in the Knowledge Discovery in Databases Laboratory. Dr. Gustafson is a member of several program committees, several journal editorial boards, and a Technical Editor-in-Chief of the journal Memetic Computing. In 2006, he received the IEEE Intelligent System’s “AI’s 10 to Watch” award.
