Margaret Hu is a Professor of Law at William & Mary Law School and founding director of the Digital Democracy Lab at William & Mary. Her research interests include the intersection of national security, cybersurveillance, and AI and civil rights.

She is author of several articles, including Biometric Cyberintelligence and the Posse Comitatus Act, Big Data Blacklisting, and Algorithmic Jim Crow, as well as editor of Pandemic Surveillance: Privacy, Security, and Data Ethics. Previously, she served as senior policy advisor for the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, and also served as special policy counsel for immigration-related discrimination in Civil Rights Division, U. S. Department of Justice, in Washington, D.C.
