Kellie Owens

Kellie Owens is an alumnus of Data & Society. She is a K99/R00 Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. She conducts research on the ethical use of technology and data in medicine. Her most recent projects explore how new technologies and data sources impact risk management and decision-making in medical fields such as clinical genomics and obstetrics. She is particularly interested in understanding when and how new technologies can worsen or ameliorate health inequities. Her research is sponsored by the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Formerly a researcher at Data & Society, she is now an affiliate and advisory board member for the Health + Data team.
