Frank Torres, a Data & Society affiliate, is a fellow at the Center on Civil Rights and Technology at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, where he focuses on policies related to data and artificial intelligence to ensure equitable innovation. He was previously the director of public policy in Microsoft’s Office of Responsible AI, where he developed, advocated for, and worked to implement the company’s policy on the responsible development and deployment of AI. He also worked on Microsoft’s government affairs team, helping to lead efforts to pass a comprehensive privacy law and consumer protections from harms like spam and spyware. Earlier, Torres was a senior policy counsel at Consumers Union, where he advocated for privacy and consumer protections related to the use of technology. He was also a Data & Society fellow and served on the board at Public Knowledge. He is a graduate of Georgetown University and The George Washington School of Law.
