Tricia Wang

Tricia Wang, a Data & Society affiliate, is a tech ethnographer, entrepreneur, and community builder who believes that technology must serve humanity. For the last decade, she’s deployed her expertise in data, design, and tech to transform organizations, advise corporate leaders, and coach founders. The consulting firm she co-founded, Sudden Compass, has worked with Fortune 500 companies and tech startups. She’s opened up research tech labs worldwide, from China to Peru. Most recently, she co-founded and ran the Crypto Research and Design Lab (CRADL).

Wang is an investor and mentor at SKU (CPG accelerator), and an advisor to Dangerous Ventures, ReSeed.Farm, and the ​​Blockchain Law Center for Social Good. She advises companies creating consumer-facing climate change solutions and is writing a book about the future of personal data in an AI-driven world. A frequent speaker on AI, data, and Web3, she is known for bringing the human voice to data science with what she calls Thick Data, which she describes in her TED talk. Wang’s work has been featured in Quartz, The New Yorker, Buzzfeed, Techcrunch, The Atlantic, Al Jazeera, Slate, WIRED, The Guardian, and Fast Company.

Wang served as a member of the World Economic Forum Global Futures Data Council and Climate Coalition, and was a fellow at the Geo Tech Atlantic Council and Harvard University’s Berkman Center for Internet & Society. During her Ph.D. research, she was a Fulbright fellow and National Science Foundation fellow. She is a dancer with Inlakech Dance, the first queer and trans-Latin dance academy.
