Community Manager: Data & Society is seeking a playful, full-time community manager to start immediately. This position is ideal for someone who finds joy and happiness from helping communities flourish from behind the scenes. The ideal candidate will not only be excited by the goals of the institute, but already be tracking the people and work underway. Strong working knowledge of the nonprofit research and academic worlds is a plus.
Web / Design / Digital Media Producer: Data & Society is looking for a web / design / digital media producer to start immediately. We are seeking a multi-talented geek to support Data & Society’s communications efforts. This is a key staff role in our growing research institute, which will require energy, creativity, and a heap of technical skills. The web / design / digital media producer will work closely with the rest of the team to find ways to punch above our weight in terms of the style and utility of our online presence, research projects, events, and outputs.
Project Coordinator – Data & Civil Rights: Data & Society is seeking a full-time project coordinator focused on data and civil rights to start immediately. The ideal candidate will come directly from the civil rights community, know the various organizations who comprise the community, and have strong networks into the world of advocacy and organizing. The right person for this job may have a Master’s or JD, but may also have extensive experience working in community organizing. The right candidate will most likely have at least 5 years deeply engaged with civil rights organizations and have a wide network of existing relationships.
Project Coordinator – Ethics in “Big Data” Research: Data & Society is seeking a full-time project coordinator for our ethics in data research projects to start immediately. The ideal candidate will be familiar with and/or interested in research ethics issues. This position would be particularly appropriate for someone with a Master’s degree from a library or information science program or someone with an understanding of library and information science principles.
Research Assistant – Part Time: Data & Society is seeking a meticulous research assistant to start immediately. This position is ideal for a current student, with Master’s and PhD students more likely to have opportunities to take on additional research responsibilities based on experience. While enthusiasm about the research topics is not a requirement, candidates who are passionate about topics at the intersection of technology, society, and policy in a data-driven world will find this work more rewarding and interesting.
Research Assistant – Cities of Data project: The “Cities of Data” project at Data & Society is looking for a research assistant. The project examines the role of big data in urban research, city government, and citizen science. The ideal candidate is a graduate or post-doctoral student with research or professional experience in urban studies, urban planning, urban informatics, data science, and/or geographic information systems or geosimulation.
