Anne L. Washington

Anne L. Washington is a computer scientist and a librarian who specializes in governance issues that shape the production and consumption of data-driven innovations. She is an Assistant Professor of Data Policy in the Department of Applied Statistics, Social Science, and Humanities at NYU Steinhardt School.

At the broadest level, her multi-disciplinary work considers the impact of technology on society through the lens of digital record keeping. Her research builds on extensive work experience in industry and government including Apple Computers, Barclays Global Investors, and the Library of Congress’s Congressional Research Service. She has served as an invited expert to the W3C and is an academic advisor on several boards. She holds a degree in computer science from Brown University and a Master’s in Library Information Science from Rutgers University. She completed a PhD from The George Washington University School of Business. The National Science Foundation has generously funded her research including a prestigious five-year NSF CAREER award to investigate U.S. federal open data policy.
