Ania Calderon

Ania Calderon serves as Data & Society’s managing director for strategy and engagement. A leading open government advocate, she has worked at the crux of technology and democracy for over a decade, supporting the delivery of purpose-driven and accountable data policies in several countries around the world. 

Previously, as executive director of the Open Data Charter, Ania partnered with governments and organizations to make data open and freely available, while protecting the rights of people and communities. As a general director for the National Digital Strategy from 2012–2016, she delivered a key presidential mandate for data governance in Mexico. 

Ania was a two-time fellow at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society’s program for Ethics and Governance of Artificial Intelligence, where she co-founded the AI Blindspot initiative. She holds a master’s degree from Columbia University.
