Andrew McLaughlin is a partner at betaworks, a technology and media start-up studio based in New York City. At betaworks, Andrew is an operator, a company and product builder, a strategist, and an investor. Since joining in 2012, he has served as CEO of two betaworks companies, Digg and Instapaper.

Andrew is on the board of Chartbeat, the real-time data analytics company.

Andrew chairs the board of Access Now, an organization devoted to defending and extending the digital rights of activists, journalists, and citizens at risk around the world. He is a director of the Sunlight Foundation, which puts technology to work in civic tech, open data, policy analysis, and journalism to make government and politics more accountable and transparent, and of Public Knowledge, which promotes freedom of expression, an open internet, and the public domain.

Andrew a member of the Partnership for New York City Innovation Council. He is a Future Tense Fellow at the New America Foundation, an advisor to Data & Society, a research institute focused on social, cultural, and ethical issues arising from data-centric technological development, and a member of the Advisory Council of the Open Technology Fund. From 2011-13, Andrew served on the board of Code for America. In 2014-15, Andrew was a senior fellow in cybersecurity and Internet governance at Columbia University‘s School of International and Public Affairs.
