William Partin is an alumnus of Data & Society’s Disinformation Action Lab, where he helped to monitor and analyze disinformation campaigns. He is also a doctoral candidate in Communication at the University of North Carolina, where his dissertation situates the formation of the esports industry since 2010 within the broader platformization of cultural production. His scholarly work has been published in journals such as Surveillance and Society and Social Media + Society and, in 2020, he received the Early Career Researcher Award from the Surveillance Studies Network. He has also contributed features on culture, technology, and finance to The Atlantic, The Washington Post, Variety, among others.
