Joan is a research assistant with the Health and Data team at Data & Society. Joan is interested in emergent digital practices and studies issues at the intersection of technology, race and identity, and public health. Prior to joining Data & Society, Joan worked as a research assistant for AI for the People, exploring quantitative and qualitative methods to identify and disrupt political and health disinformation targeted at Black Americans. Joan received her bachelors from New York University with a degree in Global Liberal Studies and a concentration in Politics, Rights and Development where she completed her thesis “Confronting Techno-Authoritarianism: Afrofuturist Strategies for Digital Organizing.”
